Newf Brand - Frequently Asked Questions

Newf Brand cosmetics started in 2000 when the founders Tiffany and Stefan met at the University of Miami. While both enjoyed the finer things in life, there was always the thought of doing so naturally. Neither of them liked the idea of spreading chemicals on their bodies everyday. So, inspired by the tropical smells of South Florida, the two of them began concocting their own bath and skin care products, but mostly only for their own use.

In 2001, the two of them graduated from college and moved to Germany, where Stefan had a job offer. Meanwhile Tiffany continued to perfect her line of products and expand the product offerings.The sub-tropical warmth of Miami was replaced with windy, cold weather and once again the environment had an influence on Newf Brand's line of products. Protection from the elements became another aspect to be included in the products.

And the rest is history…

After supplying friends and family with our products for a while, we decided to form Newf Brand Inc. and with the help of Tiffany's mother Dale, who heads the US branch of Newf Brand, we formed Newf Brand International.

We now make our Newf Brand products by hand in Europe, as well as the US, with the only difference being that we test new products exclusively at home in Germany. At the beginning of 2007, Newf Brand Germany moved to its new home, a on old farm close to Frankfurt built in the 1830's. We intend to utilize this new space to expand our production area and product offering.

How did you come up with the name "Newf Brand Cosmetics?"

As you may have seen us mention elsewhere, the name of the company was inspired by our dog, Ayla, a 100 pound Newfoundland "puppy." One of the first natural products we started developing were for pets - dog shampoo and a doggie deodorant to use in between washes. Most of the time our dog eats better than we do, and whether you have a pure bred dog or a mix from the streets, you know how easy it is for a dog to capture your heart and start influencing your life. A giant breed dog seems to do that even more so because it's very similar to having a child. Your life is turned upside down when you bring it home as a puppy and start potty training her; you start making plans to go out with friends based on whether you dog is allowed to come or not and you definitely notice a big dog when it's standing on your foot or her tail starts sweeping things from the dinner table.

There are many similarities from dog breed to dog breed but Newfie owners seem to share a certain set charastics themselves. Over the past two years, we have come to know many other Newfoundland owners and each of them shares a certain sense of adventure while remaining completely relaxed about day-to-day life. You don't stress when a few pints of water gets dumped onto the floor because someone gets too close to the water bowl. You laugh when your dog flings strings of drool through the room and they smack your loved ones in the head or dangle from the ceiling. You start finding more and more reasons to spend time outdoors with your dog. You begin enjoying the "little things" in life and stop stressing about all the other chaos that may erupt. We just find that these dogs make you slow down a bit and enjoy life...which also occurs when driving a Land Rover Defender - but that's a whole other story!

All in all, we wanted to name our company Newf Brand to reflect our own sense of inner peace while being surrounded by an often chaotic world. To communicate our desire to enjoy the finer things in life, while knowing that one doesn't always have to spend a fortune to accomplish that. And taking the time to appreciate our loved ones because they are truly what makes life worth living.

What in the world does "Venereous" mean and why would you give your product such a strange name?

Venereous (pronounced "Ve`ne´re`ous") has two common definitions. The first is:" Venereal; exciting lust; aphrodisiac." The second definition of venereous is: "Lustful; lascivious; libidinous."

The word "venereous" is derived from the Latin word "venereus" which comes from Venus. And "vener-" in Latin means "desire or love." Moving on to other words you may not know so well, "lascivious" is yet another adjective meaning "expressing lust" or "exciting sexual desires." And "libidinous?" It means: "Driven by lust; preoccupied with or exhibiting lustful desires." Are you noticing a trend here?

When you boil this all down, you're left with a whole lot of lust, desire and, well, more lust. Although our product, Venereous Mountain Mist, isn't specifically related to sexual acts, we know that a common reason people shave or wax their body hair is to feel sexy and cause others to desire them (and yup, that brings us back to lust again). Although Venereous is not a very common word, we like for our product names to actually mean something.

What about animal testing?

At Newf Brand we DO NOT test our products on animals. We think it is wrong and despicable to test on animals for cosmetic purposes! We have been working on paw salve for cracked, salt damaged doggy paws but so far we've only tested that on our own skin.

Our Newfie puppy once decided to perform animal testing herself and chewed up a bunch of lip balm tubes. We're happy to report that she didn't get harmed, but the lip balms weren't so lucky!

What if I have a problem with a product? Can I return it for a refund?

We value customer satisfaction at Newf Brand so if you are unhappy with a product for any reason, you are free to return it to us for a full refund. We unfortunately cannot reimburse shipping costs. Please contact us before sending products back and we may be able to help you resolve the problem without the hassle of a return. For example, if you find a product has a defective lid, we will supply you with a new cap free of charge.

Where does Newf Brand ship products?

Because we have two manufacturing locations, we are able to ship our products to many countries around the world. Our primary areas of focus are currently Europe, the United States and Canada but if you would like to have products shipped elsewhere, please contact us for a shipping quote.

Customers in the US are charged a $7 flat rate fee for USPS Priority Mail shipping. A $17 fee is charged to ship our products throughout Europe.

Will people know what I've ordered when it arrives at my home/office/school, etc.?

Newf Brand products are discretely packaged for shipping to prevent anyone from knowing what is contained inside. We have plain packing boxes and do not include any advertisements on the package. We do include our company name so that you know that what you are receiving is indeed from Newf Brand but we value your right to privacy.
